About Kickstart

What is Kickstart?

Yahoo! Kickstart is a professional network with a distinct purpose: to connect college students, recent grads, professionals, and alumni to discover internships and jobs, and to get career advice and mentorship.

Kickstart allows you to create a professional profile, browse company profiles and network with your peers, professors, alumni and potential employers. If networking is the best way to launch a career, then Kickstart is the best way to start building your network - by leveraging what you have in common with the people you need to get to know.

To get started, think of your profile as your first chance to make a great impression. Brag about your schoolwork or your professional career, and describe the extracurriculars in which you participate such as sports and sororities/fraternities (we call these "Affiliations"). You also have a chance to describe other interests you may have, such as the person you'd most like to meet. Then, you can start browsing right from your own profile page. You can click on your school and see all the people who went there; search for companies and see your coworkers or "follow" if you want to work there; you can even click on each of your interests and see who else said the same thing. All of these are icebreakers for you to reach out to other people on Kickstart, and you can mention these as your introduction when "Requesting a Connection" to someone interesting.

Good luck!

Who built it?

Kickstart was conceived and built by the Yahoo's Advanced Products team in San Francisco. While we are far from finished, we are proud of this "preview" release. We plan to roll out new features in the weeks and months to come and look forward to hearing your feedback about what you think needs to be added first.
